I've checked this out, since I've received one or two today as well, but it seems that the standard answer is the old: person sending a PM and deleting it before its read prob. But I'll look into it a bit more.

I'll send you one right now as a test and I won't delet it. The PMs should work though you have a mod at this site. PM reminders disapper if you visit the site and go back - but they should stay in the inbox irregardless..... phpBB2 help forums don't support modified sites but an accepted mod is usually ok - The knowledge base is available. Let me know is there really is a problem. Sending your PM now.....

BTW - I have successfully installed language packs and spellchecker.....something to think about when the server points to the new domain.....

Anyone else having trouble picking up PMs?

I can log in no problem, but can't access the messages. :? Anyone else having the same trouble?

The PM does not seem to work. More interestingly is why I am responding here to your query. That post just tugged at my heartstrings..... Funny how we need the company of others in all sorts of ways.....even Fatguy.....

There is a prob with the PMs right now. To be honest, I don't know what the cause is. I suspect that it it's a prob with phpBB2 (the app for the bored) and hope to have an answer and solution within the next day or so.

If not, members are entitled to a refund of a the suitable percentage of their annual fee to compensate for loss of service...

You may want to upgrade to the latest version (I had to because I got hacked.....). While you are changing files you may want to replace the folder wich has the PM script (a copy of your present board may still be available for FTP). Since this is a modified board, you may need the Steve2K's assistance; or just change script the hard way to keep the present configuration. This is better than restoring a database.....long story there.....

Thanks, Fatguy. I've done upgrades, both here and on another site, in the past. Some manual coding is needed, owing to the mods, but it isn't a chore. Having restored this database (click here (http:/www.lexxdownloads.com/phpBB2)), 120 mb or so manually parsed into 1.5mb chunks, labelled, and fed into a day's worth of sql queries, I appreciate the long story aspect. It was a tedious and less than entertaining task.

I'm still not sure that this is a phpBB2 prob rather than a server prob. I'm willing to wait for a day and hope that it goes away. ;)

First off, I'd like to thank everyone for the patience recently. Next, I want to apologise. Earlier this week I thought that I would have the time and energy to address the PM problem. The week didn't turn out as I'd hoped, and when I've had time I've also been rather mudheaded and witless (my recent posts on the bored are evidence of this).

The problem persists. It''s beginning to look like it might be a server prob, but I'm still checking out other possibilities, so I apologise if the bored continues to be momentarily wonky from time to time over the weekend.

Yes, PMs are back. As I'd come to suspect, it was a server problem. To prevent hackers the firewall had been tightened up a little too much. Adjustments have been made and all should be well now. (Heck, I might even get some sleep after too many hours tracking this down.) Sorry for any inconvenience, and thank you all for your patience.

Maurice e-mails are not the same as logging in and getting a message notice. PMs are fun and I really missed sending/receiving them.

ya thats very true
PMs are much more fun than email
its a different medium
like getting letters in snail mail is different
email is the shady, spam saturated bottom-feeder of communication

ps - thanks for getting the PMs fixed iStan
