I'm still seeing a lot of empty avatars.

Changing your avatar:

Click the 'User Control Panel' link at the top of the page (under the Board Index link).
There is a series of tabs near the top of the page, click the 'Profile' one.
Down the side of the page, there are some more tabs, one is labeled 'Edit avatar'. Click it. Upload or link offsite to your avatar and enter in the image dimensions (max is 150x150px).

Other profile tips.
If you have forgotten your username, simply send me an email (link in my profile) and tell me the email address attached the account. I can then tell you the username.
If you have forgotten your password, simply use the 'forgot password' feature. Your password will be sent to your email address. :)

I do have a question but I doubt its possible without some major fiddling.

Is there a way to get the "Profile" part (Avatar, name, post count etc) over to the left hand side?

Yes indeed, with a quite a bit of fiddling. I'll see if I can scrounge up something that will let the user decide what side they want the profiles to be on. ;)
